It's quite likely that bots (automated accounts) are being tested here. We had a taste of that with Goxy. The problem is that either we need software solutions, or a mass deletion option for the mods.

Another option is the use of a "captcha" for the account creation process. But I think you need to buy a licence for a site to use the effective ones.

Either a sign up captcha, or requiring say 50% of profile info be filled out to activate your account.... Too bad it'll NEVER happen

On the 50% of profile info be filled out thing... that's far too easy to automate. In an A.I. war between Admin and the attackers, the odds are on the attackers. It needs captcha intervention.
